FOR THE NEW YORK STATE
5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES EXAM

Welcome to fifth grade. The good news is that you will only have one state test to take this year ~ the New York State Grade 5 Social Studies test.

We have developed a project to help you become familiar with the format of the test, and show you examples of the kinds of documents and questions that will be on it. By using this, we hope you will be less anxious and more prepared to take this test in November.

The test will be given in two 90 minute periods which will be broken down in three sections:

PART 1 ~ 35 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS

PART 2 ~ 3 TO 5 CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE QUESTIONS

PART 3 ~ A DOCUMENT BASED ESSAY
